The boat ride through the Delta takes about two hours, during which you’ll enjoy the tranquility and natural beauty of the Río de la Plata. Once on the island, you can visit the Historical Museum, the old Urquiza Theater, its own Chinatown, or the prison where Perón and Frondizi were held.

And in case you didn’t know, the writer Rubén Darío lived on Martín García Island, so you can also visit his house. From Tigre, there are two boat companies that will take you there: Sturla Viajes and Dan Travel.

San Clemente del Tuyú is synonymous with the beach and Mundo Marino Park, but also with hot springs. Very close to the center of San Clemente del Tuyú is Termas Marinas Park. If you don’t have a car, you can take public transportation from San Clemente del Tuyú to Mundo Marino and from there take a taxi (it’s a 10-minute ride from Mundo Marino to the hot springs).

If you want to feel like you’re in another country quickly without feeling too far from Buenos Aires at the same time, you have to cross the Río de la Plata and visit Colonia. There are two companies that can take you there: Colonia Express and Buquebus, and both offer day tours that include a tour of the city of Colonia and its most important attractions (its coastline, its colonial-style houses).

You’ll have lunch, go for a bike ride, and you won’t believe that a place as peaceful as this is so close to Buenos Aires. If you have the chance to stay overnight, there are beautiful hotels, or you can even take the bus to Montevideo and see a bit more of Uruguay. Crossing the Río de la Plata gives your weekend getaway a whole new feel.

Carlos Keen is a small town an hour from Buenos Aires. Visit the Benedictine Basilica; it’s becoming very famous for its excellent steakhouses and restaurants. In the past, it was a railroad town, and you can see that in the charm of its old station. Today, it’s ideal for a day trip or a weekend getaway to experience the countryside and its tranquility—not to mention its excellent cuisine featuring local products.
