This Wednesday, April 15, Plaza Houssay will bring together all medical specialties so you can receive free care. This is a 24-hour free health clinic organized by the University of Buenos Aires.
The UBA is organizing a day of free medical care to protest the precarious state of education and the government’s failure to address the issue of outdated teacher salaries.
The University of Buenos Aires is holding a day of free medical care for vulnerable residents and to highlight the demand for university funding, under a format that the UBA has defined as a “Japanese-style strike.”
What health services will you find at Plaza Houssay
The UBA’s free medical care event begins on Wednesday, the 15th, at 8 a.m. and runs through Thursday, the 16th, at 8 a.m. To increase capacity, six mobile trailers will be set up in Plaza Houssay.
Available services include dental care with the fabrication of fixed and removable prostheses, optometry and ophthalmology services, general medical care, blood pressure and blood glucose testing, blood type and factor determination, electrocardiograms, psychological counseling, legal and financial advice, nutritional and physical therapy counseling, podiatric care, and veterinary care for dogs and cats, including rabies vaccinations, deworming, and spaying/neutering.
The context: why the UBA is taking to the streets
The University Funding Act was approved twice by Congress to increase funding, although the Executive Branch vetoed both initiatives; in the second instance, Parliament rejected that veto, so the law remained in effect but was not fully implemented.
Wednesday’s event is the most visible highlight of an entire week of action. From Monday the 13th through Saturday the 18th, the UBA is also providing care at Ciudad Universitaria Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., with appointments available via WhatsApp.
