What would happen the day after regaining sovereignty over the Falkland Islands? With that question as the starting point , “Malvinas, the Game” was born—a strategy game that invites you to imagine the Falkland Islands through their infrastructure, work, culture, and collective memory. Best of all: the Falkland Islands board game is on sale, and you can buy it.
Malvinas: The game that imagines the islands under Argentine control, developed at a public university
The idea came from the team at El Equipo Azul(you can find them on Instagram as @elquipoazul) and arose when they noticed a clear gap: there were no board games produced in Argentina on the domestic market that addressed the topic of the Falkland Islands from a comprehensive, peaceful, and sovereign development perspective.
Thus, the Entre Ríos-based startup El Equipo Azul decided to move forward with the initiative and create this game in which you can explore what the Falkland Islands would be like if they had been reclaimed and were under Argentine control.
The project wasn’t conceived solely as a commercial product; rather, it was conceived and developed within the framework of the certificate program “Falklands, South Atlantic, and Antarctica: Argentine Sovereignty and Development, ” offered jointly by the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and the Argentine Network of Professionals for Foreign Policy (REDAPPE).
That academic background gave the game a foundation that combines history, geography, international law, and biodiversity.
How to Play “Malvinas”
The game board challenges you to use your imagination and strategic thinking: Argentina peacefully reclaims the Falklands, and the players’ goal isn’t to fight, but to administer, populate, and build up the archipelago.
In the game, players move through different towns and geographical locations on the islands, collecting natural resource cards to place their strategic tokens. The key is to do it before the others.
During the game, players must make decisions about building schools, ports, factories, soccer fields, and infrastructure networks. Throughout the game, it incorporates historical facts, human rights concepts, and fact sheets on the native flora and fauna of the South Atlantic.
How to get the game where the Falklands are Argentine
The game is available through their official online store. Since it’s an independently produced edition, this first batch features an exclusive stock of just 160 units available for pre-order at 35,000 pesos.
