So get ready , because Expo Dulce Fest is coming to Buenos Aires—a festival dedicated to sweets in all their forms, where, as the grand finale, they’ll be making a 250-kilo alfajor. A sweets fair featuring a giant 250-kg alfajor and 100 kg of dulce de leche
Expo Dulce Fest is a festival 100% dedicated to fans of sweets, pastries, and coffee, opening its doors at the La Estación Municipal Park in Avellaneda from August 15 to 17.
With free admission, the festival brings together dozens of entrepreneurs, small producers, and artisanal brands where you’ll find alfajores from all over the country (ranging from traditional versions and sablée-style alfajores to signature creations with exotic fillings), fine and artisanal chocolates featuring bonbons, bars, and even chocolate-covered figs, as well as pastries including cakes, macarons, extra-filled cookies, and vegan or gluten-free options.
However, the undisputed star of this weekend’s sweet festival is the mega-giant alfajor.
Making a 250-kg alfajor is no easy task—and certainly not for beginners. Behind this confectionery masterpiece is pastry chef María Franco (@mariafranco.gourmet), who took on the challenge of creating such a structure in her workshop on Avenida Boedo in Buenos Aires.
Bringing this titan of Argentine sweets to life required insane logistics and astronomical quantities of raw materials:
- More than 100 kilos of pastry-grade dulce de leche.
- 100 kilos of cookie dough baked specifically to support the weight.
- Dozens of kilos of melted chocolate are needed to cover such a large surface area.
