Buenos Aires has an architectural gem from 1887 that was on the verge of disappearing, but it was saved, and you can explore it for free because the Casa de los Dragones is opening its doors for a free guided tour.
San Telmo is one of the neighborhoods in Buenos Aires that holds the greatest part of the city’s history; among its cobblestone streets, colonial buildings, and stories, San Telmo has a story to tell around every corner.
Hidden among these palaces and old houses is a very unique and ancient building, dating back to the time when Buenos Aires was little more than a village. This house, built in 1887, was once abandoned, dilapidated, and on the verge of being lost forever, but today it shines once again, and you can recognize it by the eight dragons on its facade. Are you curious to see what this house looks like on the inside?

This October , you can explore its entire interior because the Casa de los Dragones is one of more than 150 buildings and homes offering free guided tours as part of Open House 2026.
Why Is It Called the House of Dragons?
This colonial house is located at 663 Bolívar Street. It covers 650 square meters and was built in 1887 as an eclectic-style family residence. Its original architect remains a mystery to this day.
What really catches your eye is right above your head: crowning the facade, eight dragon figures watch over the street, giving the building an esoteric air.
In 2013, Estudio Geya began the restoration process, breathing new life into the marble at the entrance, the patches on the limestone floors (to preserve a trace of its history), and the original iron columns that you’ll be able to see in the first courtyard.
What’s more, if you’ve never seen a cistern, the Casa de los Dragones still has its own: from the reception area, you’ll find a staircase leading down to its historic cistern dating back to the 1800s.
