Palermo is synonymous with innovative restaurants and new flavors. That’s a fact. Every new gastronomic opening is usually in that neighborhood but you have to expand horizons and dare to explore other proposals and other flavors has to be part of your DNA. So that you don’t get bored, we leave you two places to take you out of Palermo and discover that there are gastronomic experiences that are worth beyond: an incredible cevichería in Abasto, a Middle Eastern restaurant and an Arab restaurant in Montserrat.
Grau: Peruvian tradition with a contemporary twist in Abasto.
Grau is in Abasto, and is named after Miguel Grau Seminario, Peruvian naval hero known as the “Knight of the Seas”. Grau’s dining room seats more than 80 people and an imposing mural with General Grau welcomes you, while the open kitchen at the back anticipates what you are about to eat.
The star dish is the cebiche, which comes in several versions: a combination of octopus, squid, squid, squid and white fish in scallop emulsion. Other options include the cebiche of trout marinated in tiger’s milk with yellow chili and the Carretillero, with fish of the day marinated in lemon and chili limo with crispy rabas, typical of Lima’s “carretillas”.
The menu also includes quinoa atamalada, a tamale with quinoa stew with smoked prawns in anti-cuchero sauce. Among the rice dishes, the Tacu Tacu a lo Macho, a mixture of canary beans and garlic rice, is not to be missed. Traditional soups such as chupe and parihuela complete the menu.

2. Liliana Helueni
Helueni is in a corner of Montserrat. Actually the restaurant is called Liliana Helueni and it is much more than a restaurant: it is a tribute to Syrian and Lebanese roots. The menu is inspired by the recipes inherited from her family and includes classics such as raw keppe, stuffed grape leaves and fatay, but also more modern proposals such as beet hummus or labne with za’atar and olive. If you want to know what it’s like to eat in the Middle East in Buenos Aires in a restaurant that feels like being in the house of someone who invites you to eat, this must be the best place.
