This Italian Renaissance villa, just one hour from Buenos Aires, awaits you with tea with opera and special dinners in its mansion and gardens.
This Italian Renaissance villa is called Villa Grampa and is located in the English neighborhood of Temperley. From the outside and from the inside, wherever you look, it is a piece of Italy hidden an hour away from the city of Buenos Aires.
The history of this Renaissance mansion is very interesting: it was built in 1914 by Bernardo Grampa, an immigrant from northern Italy who arrived in Argentina in 1880 and settled in La Boca, where he prospered with a building materials business.
When he decided to build his family home in Temperley, he had the furniture and most of the materials brought directly from Europe. The result is a replica of an Italian Renaissance villa that, more than a hundred years later, is still standing and opens its doors so that you can explore every last corner of it.
What you will find inside this Renaissance mansion
The first floor of the mansion preserves the period rooms and bathroom in an extraordinary state of preservation. The ground floor houses an event hall, and all the furniture is original, imported from Europe. Villa Grampa is not a museum because everything you see makes you feel like you are spying on the life of someone who actually lived there more than 100 years ago. It’s not just the furniture and objects, it’s the feeling that someone really lived in this Renaissance mansion, and as you walk through it, you feel a little part of that history.
Opera, afternoon tea in a century-old salon, and Italian dinners
You can discover Villa Grampa through some of the events they organize monthly. In the salon of this Renaissance mansion, you can enjoy afternoon tea accompanied by opera music and singers who move around you, creating an Italian atmosphere of times that no longer exist. If you want to experience this Italian villa at night, then you have Neapolitan dinners, which are just as special.
The events change dates, so to find out when you can visit Villa Grampa and reserve any of these options, you have to check their IG @villagrampa.
How to get there
You can get there by taking the 51 bus from Plaza Constitución, which drops you off two blocks away. You can also take the Roca Train on the Korn branch and get off at Temperley. If you go at night, a practical option is to go to Punto Límite in Lanús and from there request an Uber to Villa Grampa.
