There are buildings in Buenos Aires that fool even the algorithms. On the corner of Parera and Quintana in Recoleta there is a building so Parisian that Google mistakes it for the Palais Royal in Paris. Its façade, perfect in proportions and details, seems closer to the Louvre than to Alvear Avenue. We tell you how it looks like and show you one of the apartments that are sold to feel like Paris.
This is the building in Buenos Aires that Google confuses with the Palais Royal in Paris.
The history of what is possibly the most Parisian building in all of Buenos Aires begins in 1928, when the Duhau family commissioned architect León Dourge to design a residential building inspired by the great French palaces. Dourge had also been the author of the Duhau Palace (on Alvear Avenue) and designed a more intimate version of the building on Parera and Quintana, where every molding, railing and column is in the Beaux Arts style.
How the building is made in the likeness of a Parisian palace and has an apartment for sale
To begin with, the main hall is built with Paris stone and has double height. This hall leads to a staircase that is a reduced replica of the staircase of the Palais Royal, precisely one of the elements that make Google Lens confuse this building in Buenos Aires with the Palais Royal in France .
During the 80s, on the first floor of the building, there was a boîte ( if you are very young, a boite was a bowling alley). Can you imagine a classic French-style bowling alley?
Today, that spirit survives in the oak floors, original fireplaces and French balconies of the 358-square-meter apartment for sale in this building that would give Google’s algorithm a run for its money. It has five bedrooms, three full bathrooms, a large living room, dining room, desk and a kitchen with a dining room that preserves the classic layout of the Buenos Aires residences of the golden years.
From the sidewalk, it is enough to look up to understand Google’s confusion, only it is not Paris, it is Recoleta. The price of the apartment? 1,600,000 dollars.
