An exhibition, open until mid-August, in which in addition to seeing the Patagotitan Mayorum in all its splendor, you will be able to see how they assemble it. The Patagotitan Mayorum: the largest dinosaur on the planet from Chubut to Buenos Aires.
The Patagotitan Mayorum, this gigantic herbivore, belonging to the sauropod group and native to the Cretaceous period, astonished the world for its extraordinary dimensions when it was discovered in Chubut in 2013: more than 9 meters high, a length close to 42 meters and an estimated weight of about 74 tons.
Currently, more than 150 fossils belonging to at least six specimens are preserved in the Egidio Feruglio Museum (MEF), in Trelew. But the fame of the Patagotitan does not end in Argentina. Replicas of the Patagonian titan travel the world: it can be seen at the Field Museum in Chicago, is the star of the American Museum of Natural History in New York, and also captivates visitors to the Natural History Museum in London.
Don’t miss the real-time assembly of this giant dinosaur in CABA at Thays Park.
The impressive replica of the Patagotitan majorum was completely created by the team of the Egidio Feruglio Museum (MEF), in its specialized workshop in Trelew, Chubut. It is a full-scale reconstruction of the titanosaur skeleton that combines meticulous craftsmanship with technology: each bonewas scanned, modeled and reproduced with advanced 3D printing techniques, which guarantees absolute fidelity with the original remains.
The assembly process is as impressive as the replica itself. Over the course of at least four days, although it may take up to five days, the MEF technical team will use cranes, scaffolding structures and ladders to assemble this prehistoric beast with millimetric accuracy.
First the limbs are attached, then the hip area. Next, the neck and tail sections are added. The most awaited moment comes at the end, when the dinosaur’s head is placed, in a sort of ceremonial act that marks the end of a true feat.
You will be able to enjoy this giant dinosaur for free at Thays Park as many times as you want until the end of August. In addition to this dinosaur on display, you will also be able to enjoy free activities for the whole family.
