If you’re in the Microcentro or work near Plaza de Mayo and want to eat without being disturbed or enjoy a peaceful lunch, what you’re looking for is right here.
This is the hidden Japanese restaurant just a few meters from Plaza de Mayo where a Buddhist monk cooks and serves you
Just a few meters from the frenetic pace of downtown Buenos Aires lies a hidden Zen oasis. It’s on the first floor of an old mansion on Alsina Street and combines an active Buddhist temple with a Japanese restaurant. At the helm of this hidden and wonderful spot is chef and monk Aoki.
As soon as you walk through the door, the chaos of the city disappears completely, and you find yourself surrounded by rooms with traditional tatami mats for dining at floor level, as well as conventional tables and décor full of ceremonial details. It’s a true haven of peace where you can unwind at lunchtime or dinnertime. The restaurant that houses this unique combination is called Furaibo.
What It’s Like to Dine at a Buddhist Temple: Authentic Flavors and Signature Touches
Furaibo’s menu ranges from Japanese culinary classics like ramen, tonkatsu, katsu kare (Japanese curry), yakisoba, yakimeshi, and teriyaki, to classic sushi, and includes a selection of more exotic desserts that serve as the perfect finishing touch to any great meal. Have you ever tried artisanal ice cream made with unconventional Asian ingredients, such as sesame, black garlic, or hints of sake?
In addition to dining, if you’re planning to delve into Japanese culture, the venue organizes a schedule of cultural activities ranging from workshops and ceremonies to mantra nights, music concerts, and even cultural gatherings.
