This January 2025, the sky will treat us to a spectacular astronomical phenomenon: a planetary parade in which six planets align and will be visible to the naked eye, with a seventh planet joining later. The best thing about this planetary parade is that you can see it with the naked eye.
What is a Planetary Parade?
A planetary parade or planetary alignment is an event where several planets can be observed simultaneously in the night sky. This 2025 brings us a planetary parade. More precisely, the 2025 planetary alignment starts on January 21, 2025 and will be observed for approximately four weeks. If you are in Buenos Aires, the ideal time to enjoy this spectacle is around 8:30 pm, just after sunset and when the sky is already dark.
The planets in this arrangement create an optical illusion that looks like they are actually one behind the other because in fact Mars, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune and Uranus orbit around the Sun following the ecliptic, an imaginary line that traces its path across the sky.
Which planets can be seen in the 2025 alignment
This January 21, the visible planets are Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune and Uranus. The first four planets can be seen with the naked eye, while Neptune and Uranus require the use of a telescope. Towards the end of the phenomenon, Mercury will join briefly, finally creating the alignment of seven planets.
How to see the alignment of planets in Argentina
You will be able to see this phenomenon from anywhere in the country. However, to maximize the experience, it is recommended to look for a place with little light pollution and bring binoculars or telescopes to observe the most distant planets (Neptune and Uranus).
