After four months of being closed, the bar synonymous with pool and Buenos Aires nights, reopens renovated. La Academia, the place for pool and billiard fans has just reopened in a new spot in the city. La Academia has reopened very close to its original location: pool nights are back and it is open 24 hours a day!
For 90 years, Callao 368 was the home of La Academia, one of the most famous and mythical bars in Buenos Aires. But in February 2025 it closed its doors after 90 years of history.
Fortunately, the owners managed to find a place with the necessary conditions to move their imprint and La Academia reopened its doors a few blocks away from its original location.
La Academia’s new location is the old Pippo restaurant, on Montevideo Street and Corrientes Avenue, and retains the soul of the original: the same distribution between the different spaces, a first floor that combines tables for eating and chatting, another room dedicated to pool and billiards, and an upper floor where you can play table football, ping pong or cards.
The remarkable bar in Buenos Aires that reinvents itself
Although there is no exact date of inauguration, it is known that La Academia opened in the first half of June 1930. Billiards arrived a decade later. For decades, if someone thought of going to play pool in some of the pool and billiard bars in Buenos Aires, La Academia was always among the first choices.
La Academia has 15 pool tables and 5 pool tables, so besides going to eat or have a few beers, it is perfect for a weekend get together with friends. Beer, pool and best of all, the Academy is now open 24 hours a day. That’s how it was originally and until the pandemic. In the new La Academia you can spend hot and cold nights without worrying about what’s going on outside.
