It’s 85 degrees in the shade. It’s not literally like that, but almost. It is very hot and it goes beyond the fact that it is summer in the city: the thermal sensation reached 43 degrees. We are going through an extreme heat wave in Buenos Aires this summer 2025 and you need to know when the temperature drops and, even better, what you can do to avoid it and survive it.
Buenos Aires Heat Wave: When the Temperature Drops
This week in March Argentina is going to be the country with the highest temperatures. Buenos Aires is having temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius and the wind chill is close to 43 degrees Celsius.
The power outages do not stop, intermittent or prolonged, and yesterday, Wednesday, March 5, we experienced a day of chaos with a massive power outage that affected the traffic in entire neighborhoods.
The National Meteorological Service(SMN) issued alerts of all colors: red, orange and yellow for Buenos Aires, Mendoza, San Luis, La Pampa and San Juan.
The very high temperatures will increase and the heat wave in Buenos Aires will not disappear at least until the weekend of March 8 and 9.
Therefore, you will have to live this heat wave in Buenos Aires knowing that it will not rain any day, except on Saturday, March 8. From that day on, the forecast changes, temperatures drop and for at least 7 days, temperatures will not exceed 25 degrees Celsius (a spring in comparison to this deadly hell).
Where to avoid the heat wave in Buenos Aires
Avoiding this heat wave is not easy but with ingenuity you can always find opportunities to avoid dying of heat:

- Buenos Aires has many green lungs, so think about spending time in its parks and gardens, where there is plenty of shade.
- Escape to the beaches closest to Buenos Aires: the waters of the Rio de la Plata can serve you well. Everything you need to escape from a concrete monster like Buenos Aires.
And don’t forget these tips for the heat wave in Buenos Aires:
