The exhibition “Fu Manchu. The greatest magic show”. Immerse yourself in the universe of David Bamberg, the man behind the character of Fu Manchu, through a selection of original objects, costumes, illusionist apparatus and theatrical scenery that marked his career.
This journey through the life of the magician and illusionist who marked the world of illusionism in Argentina is an immersive experience in the origins of the art of illusionism, an art that, in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, was a refuge and wonder for audiences eager to dream, in a world crossed by social and economic tensions. In a context where there were few possibilities for entertainment and access to culture was limited, magic shows offered a way of escape, to experience the extraordinary for little money.

Born in England in 1904, David Bamberg inherited a long family tradition linked to illusionism, but it was in Argentina where he really became famous. Theatricality, humor and technical precision, this is how he built an unmistakable style that made him a figure that many generations of Argentines know and relate to magic.
Since July you will be able to immerse yourself in the world of illusionism and its backstage in this exhibition about the magician Fu Manchu at the Casa Fernández Blanco Museum in the neighborhood of Montserrat. Every object in the room, from the embroidered costumes to the trick boxes, tells a story of the impossible through magic during the Argentine Belle Epoque.
