The Russian Orthodox Cathedral of Buenos Aires in San Telmo opens its doors every Saturday at 7:30 pm to offer a series of free concerts that combine classical music, opera, tango and Argentine folklore. If you have never been to the blue church of Buenos Aires, you can get to know it while enjoying free concerts.
A Russian church in San Telmo
The Russian Orthodox Cathedral of Buenos Aires is an architectural jewel from 1901 and it is the first Russian Orthodox church built in Argentina. It has a Muscovite style façade and blue domes that can be seen with the naked eye from Paseo Colón Avenue.
On the top of the church there are five golden crosses, which were brought directly from St. Petersburg and inside, you can see iconostases (walls of religious icons) that were hand painted and frescoes of orthodox saints.
Admission to the concerts is free, with admission on a first-come, first-served basis until capacity is reached. In addition, the collaboration with non-perishable food is requested to support the community dining room of the church.
We leave you the schedule with all the concerts month by month of the Orthodox Church. All concerts are on Saturdays at 7.30 pm.
