Chalet Lopez is located at 1100 Sarmiento, in the San Nicolás neighborhood, and the sale includes the entire building: more than 10,300 m² of floor space, nine floors of offices, a basement with parking spaces, and, as the icing on the cake, the historic chalet at the top, facing the Obelisk.
The history of Chalet Lopez: A European chalet in the heart of Buenos Aires
The building was constructed in 1927 by Rafael Díaz, founder of Mueblería Díaz, nine years before the Obelisk was built. It has a tiled roof, is Norman in style, and was designed as Rafael Díaz’s personal residence.
Díaz was a Spanish immigrant who arrived in Buenos Aires from Valencia at the beginning of the 20th century, and he came up with a solution that was as practical as it was unique in order to be close to his home and his business: he built his house on top of the building where he had his furniture store so that he could have lunch and rest without having to travel to his home in Banfield.
Chalet Díaz retains its original floors, period woodwork, doors, windows, and historic furniture, making it a true time capsule in the city center. It was also declared a City Cultural Heritage Site in 2014.
