The Cervantes National Theater is one of the most beautiful buildings in Buenos Aires and since this April, it opens its doors to the public with a new cycle of guided tours. The Cervantes Theater: A Baroque Palace in Buenos Aires that you can visit
Declared a National Historic Monument in 1995, the Cervantes Theater is one of the few buildings of Spanish baroque architecture from the early 20th century that remain intact. It was inaugurated in 1921 and is inspired by the baroque style of the Spanish Golden Age, built with materials specially brought from Spain, and you will recognize it by its carved stone façade.
During the guided tour of the Cervantes Theater, you can explore areas of the theater that are not open to the public: the basement, the technical corridors or the dressing rooms. One of the most beautiful areas of the theater is the María Guerrero Hall, with a central chandelier and ornamental details that turn it into a palace. In addition, the theater preserves its original stage machinery and its own workshops where scenery, costumes and props are produced.
