Renewing your driver’s license or visiting its historic car museum. That’s the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about the headquarters of the Automóvil Club Argentino. However, its iconic Dr. César C. Carman Auditorium also serves as the venue for the Candlelight concerts and has just added new weekend shows: ranging from a tribute to Rock Classics to tributes dedicated to the great Juan Luis Guerra or Argentine icons like Charly García and Andrés Calamaro. Tickets are already on sale starting at 22,000 pesos, and since the venue has limited capacity, it’s best to book in advance.
What lies within the imposing ACA venue in Recoleta
The Automóvil Club Argentino building is no ordinary place. Opened in 1942 at 1850 Avenida Libertador, it is one of Buenos Aires’ best-known examples of Rationalist architecture, designed by the renowned architect Alejandro Bustillo in collaboration with Antonio U. Vilar. In addition to being the home of the ACA —the country’s oldest automotive institution—its first floor houses a museum featuring true collector’s gems, such as the cars driven by Juan Manuel Fangio.
Right there is the Dr. César C. Carman Auditorium, a historic venue famous for its acoustics and its murals by Argentine artist Emilio Centurión. An incredible place that, when the lights go out and thousands of candles are lit, transforms into a one-of-a-kind setting.
What You Need to Know About the Candlelight Series at the Automóvil Club Argentino
This new season of Candlelight stands out for the variety of repertoires performed in a chamber music format by the Ámbar Quartet (two violins, viola, and cello).
On different nights, the musicians use their instruments to put their own spin on everything from rock classics like “Paint It Black” or “Dream On” to Juan Luis Guerra’s timeless hits such as “La Bilirrubina ” and “Burbujas de Amor.” There are also dates dedicated entirely to Argentine rock: the tribute to Charly features “Seminare,” “Demoliendo Hoteles,” and “Promesas Sobre El Bidet,” while the tribute to Andrés Calamaro includes classics like “Flaca,” “Mil horas,” and “Sin documentos.”
Each concert lasts 60 minutes and takes place on select weekends (Saturdays and Sundays).
