Although Buenos Aires does not have a large public aquarium as in other capitals of the world, there are places where you can get close to marine life and discover incredible species. From the educational aquariums with immersive experiences of the Ecoparque to the large complexes of the Atlantic Coast, these are the ideal places to enjoy discovering marine life.
1. Aquarium of the Ecopark of Buenos Aires
The Ecoparque, a former zoo converted into an educational and conservation space, is located in Palermo. In addition to strolling and discovering a free natural environment and seeing animals, you will find a small aquarium that combines tropical fish, amphibians and native species, designed especially for educational activities and school visits.
It is a comfortable and accessible option if you are looking for a short plan within Buenos Aires, since it is easily accessible by subway (Line D, Plaza Italia station).
Mundo Gea: a trip through ecosystems without leaving your seat.

Within the Ecoparque itself is Mundo Gea, a thematic space that recreates different ecosystems. In addition to reptiles and amphibians, you will find aquariums that simulate marine and river habitats, so you will be able to see freshwater and saltwater fish in environments designed in detail.
3. Marine World in San Clemente del Tuyú

About 320 km from Buenos Aires is Mundo Marino, the largest theme park and oceanarium in South America. There you will be able to see dolphins, sea lions, penguins and turtles in spaces that combine entertainment with rescue and rehabilitation programs.
If you go by car, you can take the Buenos Aires-La Plata Highway and then Route 2 to Dolores; from there, Route 63 and Route 11 to San Clemente del Tuyú. It is approximately a 4 and a half hour trip.
You can also go by bus because several long distance companies connect Retiro with San Clemente.
4. Mar del Plata Aquarium
Unfortunately the Mar del Plata Aquarium closed at the beginning of 2025, after 30 years of operation. It was a great attraction. Surely at some point, a city like Mar del Plata will once again have a place to enjoy the marine fauna more closely.
