If you need to renew your passport or are thinking of getting an Argentine passport for the first time, there are important changes you need to know about before making an appointment because Argentina is launching a new passport with enhanced security, an updated design, and updated prices in 2026.
What’s new in the Argentine passport: What has changed, how much it costs, and how to make an appointment if you are required to apply for one
As of February 1, 2026, the new Argentine passport will have 34 pages. Personal data will be laser-engraved, making it much more difficult to forge. But the most important thing is what you can’t see: it incorporates a contactless chip that stores personal and biometric data in encrypted form.
The design of the new Argentine passport remains the classic Mercosur navy blue with gold trim, and the map of South America with the Argentine territory, the Malvinas Islands, and Antarctica clearly highlighted.
How much does the new Argentine passport cost?
Prices were updated on March 6, 2026. The regular passport application process costs 100,000 pesos. If you need it quickly, the express process costs 200,000 pesos, and if you need the passport immediately with same-day delivery, it costs 330,000 pesos.
Who must renew their passport in 2026 and how to make an appointment
If you already have a passport and it is still valid, you are not required to change it. Documents issued before the change remain valid internationally until their expiration date. Renewal is only mandatory when the passport expires or is damaged.
An important and good thing to know is that the validity period has not changed: 10 years for those over 18, and 5 years for minors.
Appointments for the new Argentine passport are made online through the official website of the National Registry of Persons (ReNaPer) at renaper.gob.ar. Remember to have your valid ID card handy before starting the process.
And if you are traveling soon, don’t wait until the last minute: appointments are often delayed.
