Did you know that in the heart of downtown Buenos Aires hides one of the most imposing art deco buildings in the city? The historic building of the former First Bank Boston, today the headquarters of ICBC, opens its doors for a series of free guided tours that reveal the secrets of a fascinating architectural work.
An art deco building that turns 100 years old and opens its doors for these free guided tours.
A few meters away from Plaza de Mayo, this building was designed by the American firm Walker & Gillette and inaugurated in 1925. It was originally the headquarters of the First National Bank of Boston and is one of the great exponents of early 20th century banking architecture in Argentina.
This building so representative of downtown Buenos Aires is a clear exponent of the art deco style, which combines neoclassical details and materials such as marble, bronze and polished wood, all preserved as the day of its inauguration.
How to participate in the free guided tours
The guided tours are free, organized by the ICBC Foundation and guided by Soledad Saubidet, who proposes a tour that not only shows you the building, but also introduces you to the stories of the golden age of the banking system in Argentina, a pioneer in Latin America.
