Buenos Aires is preparing to be the setting for a quintessentially Buenos Aires scene because on June 18, a convoy of Volkswagen Beetles will tour some of the city’s most iconic landmarks. The 2026 edition of VWondio World Day is coming up. Below, we’ll tell you the route of this sea of “Beetles” through Buenos Aires and how to make sure you don’t miss any of the spots where you can see them.
What is VWondio World Day
This June 18 marks the annual VWondio World Day, a gathering organized by fans and clubs of classic Volkswagen owners created to celebrate the culture surrounding the Volkswagen Beetle.
The 2026 edition will be the fourth parade held in Buenos Aires and attracts collectors, classic car enthusiasts, and, of course, curious onlookers who want a photo with these colorful cars. Can you imagine a sea of colorful Beetles rolling down Buenos Aires’s main avenues? That’s exactly what you’ll see this June 18.
The Volkswagen Beetle is one of the most famous cars of the 20th century and for decades was a symbol of popular culture in different parts of the world. Why? Well, for starters, it has an unmistakable design, is mechanically simple, and was a very affordable car that allowed many people and families to own their first car; for that reason, it appeared in many TV shows and movies.
The tide of “Beetles” rolls through Buenos Aires: the route
This event will bring together dozens of classic“Beetles”for a nighttime parade that begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Buenos Aires Planetarium, will travel along Figueroa Alcorta Avenue, Libertador Avenue, Cerrito, and 9 de Julio Avenue, and will pass by the Colón Theater, the Obelisk, and the Casa Rosada.
The car that became a legend
Originally designed in Germany in the 1930s and produced for decades, the Volkswagen Beetle—or “escarabajo” as we know it in Argentina—became one of the best-selling vehicles in history. It became a cultural symbol of the 1960s, a collector’s item, and even the star of movies like Herbie.
In Argentina, the Beetles have a very active community of fans and restorers who organize gatherings, parades, and exhibitions throughout the year, so this nighttime parade is just one of the many opportunities you have to see them in action.
