If you’re the type who can’t walk past a used bookstore without going in to browse—because you know that among all those books, there must be that one book waiting just for you—then this weekend, from October 31 to November 1, you have a must-attend event: the first edition of the Feria de Oportunidades on Avenida de Mayo. Imagine browsing and searching for books among domes, century-old doors, and 19th-century palaces. Plus, there’s much more than just books—and admission is free!
Get ready to stroll down one of Buenos Aires’ most beautiful avenues, browsing through bookshelves filled with books, enjoying special presentations, live music, and reading nooks.
Remarkable cafés, domes, and books for 1,000 pesos: the first Bargain Book Fair is coming to Buenos Aires
The First Open-Air Book Fair is here—a day to immerse yourself in culture, unbeatable deals, and architectural strolls, as you’ll be on one of Buenos Aires’ most iconic avenues, renowned for its architecture.
For two full days, you’ll be able to stroll among more than 80 booths run by publishers, bookstores, and distributors offering their best deals. You’ll find everything from timeless classics and new releases to out-of-print editions, clearance items, and rare finds that are no longer available in traditional bookstores.
But the plan isn’t just to go shopping for bargains and head home. The fair is designed as a festival because, while you’re browsing for your next read, you’ll come across author appearances, live music, and outdoor lounges where you can sit down and flip through your new finds.
Reading outdoors surrounded by mansions
This book fair will be held on Avenida de Mayo between Salta and San José. This exact stretch of the Monserrat neighborhood is an open-air architectural museum. As you stroll along with your books under your arm, we suggest you pay close attention—because with books and enthusiasm, it’s well worth revisiting these spots along Avenida de Mayo:
- 👉Stop for coffee at Los 36 Billares (Av. de Mayo 1271): Right in the heart of the fair is one of the city’s most incredible “Notable Bars.” Its basement is legendary, but sitting at its wooden tables to enjoy some croissants while watching people stroll through the fair can be a wonderful experience.
- 👉It’s always worth looking up at the top of the Barolo Palace (Av. de Mayo 1370): Half a block from where the fair ends, you’ll come across this building inspired by Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy. If you catch a clear sunset, look up to see its beacon shining.
- 👉The red domes of the La Inmobiliaria Building: When you reach Plaza Congreso, you’ll see two imposing red domes (they’re very well known and can even be seen from the other end of Plaza del Congreso).
For lovers of strolls, books, and sunny Buenos Aires, mark your calendars now for this weekend among books with unmissable deals.
