If you were planning to travel between the capital and the Western Zone this weekend, it’s important to know that Trenes Argentinos has confirmed that the Sarmiento Line will not be operating for four consecutive days during this long weekend in October.
The suspension begins on Saturday, October 10, and runs through Tuesday, October 13, inclusive. During those four days, no trains will run on the main line between Once and Moreno, nor will the diesel services connecting Moreno to Mercedes and Merlo to Las Heras. Long-distance trains and the special services on Monday and Tuesday will also be suspended.
Why is service being suspended?
The measure is in response to a series of infrastructure and safety projects ordered by the national government. The goal is to replace key components such as signal control panels in Haedo and the signaling system between Liniers and Villa Luro, as well as to perform preventive maintenance at the electrical substations in Castelar, Ramos Mejía, Morón, and Ciudadela.
When will the Sarmiento line resume service?
Regular service will resume on Wednesday, October 14, starting with the first early-morning run. However, the progress of the work depends on weather conditions; therefore, in the event of heavy rain, the work may be rescheduled and the suspension period extended.
Your best transportation options for getting around while trains are out of service
To cover the route, you’ll need to combine bus and subway lines. Forlong trips between CABA and Greater Buenos Aires, lines 136, 153, and 163 are your best options, while forurban trips and quick connections, you can take line 166 (which goes to Palermo) or transfer to Subway Line A.
