Spring is here , and the parks are bursting with flowers. Are you looking forward to the sun and warmth finally arriving so you can put your coat away until next year? Count me in. That’s why it’s great news to hear that the Buenos Aires Planetarium is organizing an outdoor festival to welcome spring.
The Planetarium has organized a spectacular event to celebrate Student Day and welcome the most colorful season of all. Here are the times and details for this event.
We have to tell you: spring does NOT begin on September 21
Although we’re all convinced that the 21st is the first day of spring, science has other plans. This year, 2026, astronomical spring (that is, the equinox) will officially begin in Buenos Aires on Tuesday, September 22, at 9:05 p.m.
Luckily, the desire to celebrate doesn’t follow scientific calendars, so the Planetarium decided to get a head start and throw an outdoor party on Monday the 21st itself to celebrate the first day of spring in Buenos Aires with outdoor music, a science fair, and special activities.
Planetary Spring: The Schedule of Activities for Spring Day
The Planetarium is hosting “Primavera Planetaria” on September 21 starting at 2:00 p.m. It’s an afternoon designed for lounging on the grass and enjoying music, science, and astronomy—all in one of the most beautiful spots in Buenos Aires.
Here’s the full schedule so you can start getting your mate ready:
- 2:00 p.m. – Outdoor Music: The afternoon kicks off with a bang: a musical performance by DJ Vinilos on the sidewalk to liven up the park.
- 3:00 p.m. – Science for all ages: The science talk “From the Big Bang to the Cosmic Spring,” presented by Estefanía Coluccio Leskow, is coming up.
- 4:00 p.m. – Let’s Look at the Sun!: A solar observation activity using a solar box right on the esplanade. Heads up! Spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so we recommend arriving a little early.
The activities will take place on the Planetarium’s esplanade, and the forecast for Monday, September 21, calls for sunshine and a high of 19 degrees. Get your beach chair, mate, and blanket ready for the grass.
