Celebrate one of the most important nights in Mexican culture without leaving Buenos Aires, because here, too, the Day of the Dead is celebrated over two days with pan de muertos, mariachis, a traditional altar, and free admission.
The Recoleta Cultural Center and the Mexican Embassy invite you to experience the Day of the Dead with a mind-blowing immersive experience on October 31 and November 1. Here’s everything that’s going to happen.
The Mexican Embassy celebrates La Noche de Muertos in Buenos Aires with a special edition dedicated to “La Noche de las Ánimas en Michoacán” and free admission
On the weekend of October 31 and November 1, the Recoleta Cultural Center will be transformed by the tradition, color, and mysticism of Mexico to transport you to the most special night for Mexicans. Thanks to the collaboration between the Mexican Embassy in Argentina and the Michoacán Ministry of Culture, you’ll be able to experience an authentic Day of the Dead without leaving Buenos Aires.
This year, the main attraction is a recreation of an authentic Michoacán cemetery and a spectacular traditional altar designed to honor those who have gone before us.
To make the experience truly immersive, you’ll also find activities for all ages: a face-painting station, an exclusive photo booth where you can take a picture with La Catrina, and themed temporary tattoos. And, of course, to add a touch of flavor to the day, Bimbo will be there offering its Tía Rosa tortillas for making fajitas and tacos.
It looks like there won’t be pan de muertos this year—the traditional bread of this festival. However, if you’re interested in trying it, look for Mexican cantinas in Buenos Aires, as they prepare and sell it during this time of year. Aurelia Cantina at 5090 El Salvador Street is one of them.
Live music and plenty of tradition: Mariachis and Canta y No Llores
The musical lineup for 2026 includes live performances by Sirankua, La Llave de la Alegría, Canta y No Llores, the Agrupación Son Jarocho, and a closing show full of rhythm featuring the classic Mariachi Gigante de La Plata. Among the songs you’ll hear to the rhythm of the mariachis is “¡Canta y no llores!”
Celebrate the Day of the Dead at the Recoleta Cultural Center. Admission is free for Argentines and residents, and entry is on a first-come, first-served basis until the venue reaches capacity.
This Day of the Dead celebration in Buenos Aires may be canceled due to rain, so we recommend arriving early to avoid being turned away and to make the most of this unique experience that brings the heart of Mexico to Buenos Aires.
