Every July 29th is a day to remember someone who did a lot for Argentines and for the world. That person is René Favaloro, the creator of the pacemaker and an excellent way to keep him in mind is with the giant mural that pays homage to him. At the intersection of two key avenues in Buenos Aires is the only giant mural in Buenos Aires in honor of René Favaloro. If you’ve never seen it, it’s about time you know where it is and see it with your own eyes because it is simply spectacular.
The only giant mural in Buenos Aires that pays homage to René Favaloro Do you know where it is?
On the side façade of the Favaloro Foundation University Hospital, on the corner of Belgrano Avenue and Entre Ríos, is the giant mural in honor of René Favaloro. It is more than a painting, it is a tribute and you can see it every time you pass by that corner of the Montserrat neighborhood.
This mural is the work of Maxi Bagnasco, an internationally renowned Argentine muralist and creator of many other impressive murals in Buenos Aires. The mural dedicated to René Favaloro is 22 meters high by 12 meters wide and was painted in just one week with spray paint and freehand.
The mural was unveiled in 2023, on the 100th anniversary of Favaloro’s birth, as part of a series of tributes organized by the Favaloro Foundation.
What is the giant mural in honor of René Favaloro like?
The image of the mural shows Dr. Favaloro in his classic white coat, facing forward, and focuses on his always serene and reflective countenance. Seen from the sidewalk or from 9 de Julio Avenue, from where it can also be seen, the mural is striking because of its scale, and because it is a very imposing image.

There are many spaces in Buenos Aires that add murals and to the work of Maxi Magnasco, we can add the work of Martin Ron, another muralist who has painted her work in many corners of Buenos Aires. The mural can be visited at any time because it is in public space and is so large and clear of buildings and other facades that it can be seen clearly from several points.
So that you don’t lose sight of it or get disoriented, you will find Favaloro’s mural on 1746 Belgrano Avenue, a few meters from the National Congress.
On the anniversary of Favaloro’s death, every July 29th, many choose to approach the Foundation to leave a flower, take a picture or just pause and look. Fortunately, you don’t have to wait for any date to visit the mural, so you can remember René Favaloro and all his contributions to medicine every day.
