Walk through the oldest tunnels of Buenos Aires and other secrets under your feet in the Archeology Week 2025
Until October 20, Buenos Aires celebrates Anthropology Week and that means you will be able to participate in free talks, workshops and guided tours that will take you to the most fascinating corners of the city’s historical sites. Which places will you be able to visit for free during Anthropology Week? La Cisterna, Barraca Peña, El Cabildo, El Zanjón de Granados and the Museum of Natural Sciences Bernardino Rivadavia. All open their doors with tours, talks and free lectures.
Of all the buildings with history, there is one in particular that in addition to a beautiful architecture still preserves the oldest tunnels of Buenos Aires and during this week you will be able to visit them for free.
These are the tunnels of the oldest church in Buenos Aires that you can visit for free.
These are the tunnels of the San Ignacio de Loyola Church. This tour includes its Jesuit tunnel, the cloister of the old Colegio de San Carlos (origin of the current Colegio Nacional de Buenos Aires) and the towers of the temple, with the clock tower. This church was built by the Society of Jesus in the 17th century and still preserves the tunnels that were built almost with the construction of Buenos Aires.
The experience continues in the cloister of the old Jesuit school, where the educational history of Buenos Aires began, and ends in the towers of the church, from where you will have a privileged view of the Historical Center.
🕰️ Curious fact: San Ignacio Church is the oldest church in the city and one of the few that preserves original structures from the colonial era. Important! The tour includes stairs and narrow passages, so be aware of this difficulty if you are elderly or have children. The activity is free, but requires prior registration.
