Just 50 minutes from Buenos Aires in the Tigre Delta, there is an old Franciscan convent built in the early twentieth century that now serves as a hotel and offers a unique experience to disconnect from the city and make a getaway without having to wait for a long weekend or vacation.
50 minutes from Buenos Aires there is a Franciscan convent overlooking the river that organizes camps for singles.
Between 1908 and 1910, the Franciscan Order built this convent on an island in the Gallo Fiambre stream, very close to the Carapachay River. Its design was in charge of the Italian architect Virgilio Cestari, the same who designed the portico of the Tattersall of the Palermo Hippodrome and the elephant pavilion of the old Buenos Aires Zoo.
For decades, the convent remained abandoned, victim of the Delta floods, but years ago it was completely restored and preserves its galleries, terraces, the chapel and the original structure. This convent overlooking the river where you can spend the day or a weekend is the San Francisco Convent and is much more than a lodging.
If you are looking for a getaway near Buenos Aires and don’t want to wait for a vacation, this convent overlooking the river is perfect because it is less than an hour away from the city of Buenos Aires. You will be surrounded by nature, walking trails through trees and flowers, two outdoor pools and water views from almost every corner. For the active ones, you can also practice kayaking and tour the canals.
You can also go alone for the day, a perfect option for a quick getaway from the city. And if that’s not enough, this convent also organizes camps for bachelors and bachelorettes, so they can get to know each other in a different environment. Love by the river?
