Have you ever enjoyed a spring concert on the banks of the Río de la Plata? This weekend you can, because one of the oldest buildings along the river is opening its doors for a free concert. This Sunday, September 6, the Buenos Aires Fishermen’s Club will be transformed into a stage along the Buenos Aires waterfront, where you can enjoy “Entre Tangos y Pasiones” for free—a concert featuring the best of popular music.
Not Palermo or Puerto Madero: the century-old spot with a free tango concert at sunset
This concert on the Costanera will be performed by the Argentine National Gendarmerie School Band, conducted by Vicente Ariel Cacciato. If you’ve never heard them before, they’re a renowned wind and percussion ensemble that performs concerts at various locations throughout the city.
Free concert on the Costanera: A musical journey between nostalgia and celebration
The concert at the Club de Pescadores is designed as a musical journey that takes you on a tour ranging from tango classics that pay homage to the genre’s greatest works—with segments dedicated to Astor Piazzolla, Carlos Gardel, and Aníbal Troilo—to popular songs and folk music, culminating in a festive finale, all so you can enjoy the music to the fullest at sunset. What better setting than the riverbank?
The Fishermen’s Club: listening to music at a National Historic Monument
The Buenos Aires Fishermen’s Club was founded on August 3, 1903, on the banks of the Río de la Plata and is the first organization of its kind dedicated to sport fishing in all of Latin America. It originally began at what was known as the “Muelle de los Franceses,” but after being destroyed by a fierce southeasterly storm in 1905, it found its permanent home on the Costanera Norte.
The Club de Pescadores is undoubtedly like a castle on the water, with its reinforced concrete pier stretching more than 500 meters into the river and the Neo-Tudor-style building crowning it, giving it that imposing air that anyone can see from afar as soon as they enter the Costanera Norte,
The entire complex was designated a National Historic Monument in 2001.
How to get to the concert at the Fishermen’s Club
Admission is free, but seats are assigned strictly on a first-come, first-served basis. To get a good spot, it’s recommended to arrive between 30 and 45 minutes before the start (4:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
This free concert is perfect to combine with a stroll through Saint Tropez Park or along the Costanera Norte, or to wrap up the afternoon with a drink while looking out at the river. If you’re coming by public transit, take bus lines 33, 45, 37, or 160, which will drop you off on Av. Costanera Rafael Obligado, just a few meters from the pier entrance.
If you’re driving, keep in mind that traffic on the Costanera is heavy on Sundays. You can look for parking along the avenue near Av. Sarmiento or leave your car in the designated spots near the Aeroparque area.
