In a city full of bars and cafés of all styles and colors like Buenos Aires, you still have yet to discover the first bar in Buenos Aires staffed by a robot. Human barista vs. robot barista—who will make the best coffee?
The first coffee shop staffed by a robot is in a shopping mall in Buenos Aires. Will it make better coffee than a human?
In the basement of the Abasto shopping mall in Buenos Aires, there is the first coffee shop staffed by a robot. When you exit the B subway line at Abasto and enter the mall, you’ll come across Buenos Aires’ first robot barista: a robot making coffee.
This first robot barista is called BotMy Coffee and is the first 100% automatic robot barista in Latin America. It was developed by the Argentine startup BotMy Solutions and uses robotic arms with artificial intelligence to handle the entire process: grinding the coffee, frothing the milk, and even creating latte art (hearts, faces, whatever you want), without human intervention.
How the first robot-staffed café in Buenos Aires works
The first step is to select your order on a screen, customize it to your liking, and watch it being prepared right there. There’s no barista behind the counter. Just the robot, hard at work.
What’s most surprising is that the robot also interacts just like in a bar staffed by people: it greets you, talks to you, and calls you by name when your order is ready.
In addition to coffee, you can order cookies in various flavors: pistachio, Oreo, triple chocolate, and more. And one of the most striking things is that the robot operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Coffee at 3 a.m., if you want. Are you leaving the movie theater in the early morning and want a coffee? You can.
