What if the act of walking were itself a work of art? That is the question posed by the first edition of the Caminar International Festival (FIC), which from April 9 to 12 takes over the neighborhoods of Chacarita and Parque Chas with more than 25 activities: street performances, poetic walks, workshops, interventions, and even an anti-ageism march. Almost everything is pay-what-you-can.
A festival that turns Buenos Aires into a stage
The Caminar Festival features site-specific interventions and performative walks through iconic spaces in Chacarita and Parque Chas, with the participation of national and international artists.
What you can’t miss each day
Thursday the 9th kicks off with Útero Bicorne, an immersive seven-act show that relies on audience participation—you can’t miss it! At 7:30 p.m. at Espacio Divino Tesoro (Céspedes 3589). Reservations required at @ana.skornik.
Friday the 10th brings two unmissable events: Descanso de Caminantes, a performative walk with portable altars and live music starting at Ángel Carranza 1001 at 5 p.m.; and at 6:30 p.m., a poetic pilgrimage that begins at the Gauchito Gil altar on Av. Corrientes 6387 and ends at La Fuerza bar with the Máquina de Poesía, a portable poem dispenser from Fabián Casas’s Taller Nómade, accompanied by live music.
On Saturday, April 11, at 3 p.m., Muerte fértil explores Chacarita’s community compost bins through poetry and physical practice; Más allá de la emergencia offers an interactive audio walk through the Cemetery (bring a cell phone with a charged battery and headphones); and the Cyanotype workshop explores nature photography at Tejiendo el Barrio (Teodoro García 3941). At 5 p.m., ACCIÓN BERLÍN takes to the circular streets of Parque Chas with a choreographic and philosophical performance starting at the Malatesta Bookstore. And at 9 p.m., a screening of short films from the A Walk competition at Aluche Art Space (Av. Dorrego 1184).
Sunday the 12th closes with a bang: birdwatching in Chacarita starting at 9 a.m., a historical walk that revisits the neighborhood’s Jesuit history and the yellow fever epidemic, the performance Aháta ha aju on migration with residents of Barrio Playón at José Artigas Station, and the closing event led by Fernando Rubio with “The Seeds, the Earth, the Water, the Sun, the Wind, and One Tree After Another, Until Reaching 30,000 ” (a 90-minute performance at the Rincón de las Artes Plaza on Av. Córdoba and Jorge Newbery, at 6:30 p.m.)
