The Casa de la Cultura on Avenida de Mayo is a magnificent building that was closed and reopens the doors of its emblematic Salón Dorado for a series of free concerts. Throughout August, music will be the protagonist from Thursday to Sunday, with proposals ranging from Beethoven’s classics to Argentine jazz.
The Casa de la Cultura reopens its Salón Dorado for a free music series in August: Classical and jazz as in the Palace of Versailles.
The Casa de la Cultura was inaugurated in 1898 to be the headquarters of the newspaper La Prensa. It is a palace inspired by the Beaux-Arts style built in Buenos Aires by engineers Carlos Agote and Alberto Gainza. The Casa de la Cultura was declared a National Historic Monument in 1995 and is currently also the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture of the City.

The façade on Avenida de Mayo is unmistakable because it has on its front a bronze lamppost with the figure of Palas Atenea, work of the sculptor Maurice Bouval. Palas Atenea is a symbol of freedom of the press.

If you go to the cycle of free concerts, until you reach the Golden Hall, you will be able to see the interior with its mixture of French architecture and elements that at that time were the latest technology: pneumatic pipes for sending notes, telephones, telegraphic equipment and even a siren that announced breaking news.
When you get to the Golden Hall of the Casa de la Cultura you will easily notice its style, as it is inspired by the Palace of Versailles, with golden moldings, mirrors and chandeliers.
