How a reading party works
First, you arrive at the assigned bar and choose a table to sit at with your book. That’s important: you have to bring your own book, the one you want, and you will dedicate 40 to 50 minutes to the silent reading of your own book. You will find yourself surrounded by people in silence doing the same thing you are doing: simply reading something they like.
It doesn’t matter the genre or the author: everyone takes their own and immerses themselves in the story. Then, reading gives way to conversation: table companions share impressions of their reading, recommend authors and, many times, end up simply talking about life. Many of those who participate in reading parties arrive without knowing anyone and leave with new friends and the promise to meet at least at the next gathering.
Reading parties in Buenos Aires bring together people of all ages. In addition, you can read while enjoying something delicious to eat or drink, and at the end there is usually live piano or a DJ set to end the day with music.
