Have you ever dreamed of drinking mead alongside Nordic warriors or trying Turkish coffee at a witches’ market without leaving Buenos Aires? Your dreams come true this weekend because this Saturday, May 16 , and Sunday, May 17 , the Old World Markets are gathering in Buenos Aires—a free event where you can stroll through medieval markets and feel like a Viking, discover spells, or immerse yourself in ancient Japan.
Five worlds of the Middle Ages in one place: What ancient worlds can you discover this weekend at Mercados del Viejo Mundo
This weekend, if you’re looking for things to do in May in Buenos Aires without skimping on fun, you can’t miss this gathering of ancient markets in Barracas. Outdoors and with free admission, Espacios del Sur in Barracas is filled with some of the most important ancient markets.
The venue will be divided into themed areas so you can explore each little medieval world and enjoy a fair that brings you a taste of its cuisine and culture. In this edition, you’ll be able to explore 5 diverse ancient markets:
- Viking Market: The corner of the Nordic clans. Rune jewelry, blacksmithing, and the ever-present mead, the Vikings’ homemade honey wine.
- Sengoku Market: for lovers of feudal Japan. Eastern culture, katanas, samurai aesthetics, and traditional sushi.
- Medieval Market: knightly duels, heraldry, and the spirit of ancient European courts without leaving Buenos Aires.
- Witches’ Market: If you’re passionate about the mystical, at this market you’ll find potions, herbs, rituals, and objects imbued with magic.
- Medieval Flavors: The food court where fire takes center stage and you can eat just like in ancient times: grilled meats, smoked dishes, and period recipes.
