Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Buenos Aires will completely disrupt the city’s public transportation system this Sunday, November 8, Monday, November 9, and Tuesday, November 10. Due to the Papal Mass and the Youth Vigil, the National Ministry of Security and the City Government have implemented extensive security measures, including the closure of the main subway stations in downtown Buenos Aires and special reinforcements on bus routes.
If you’re planning to get around the city during these days, save this guide so you don’t get stranded and plan your trip in advance.
Buses: Additional Service During the Holidays
To compensate for the subway restrictions and make it easier for those going to see the Pope to get there, bus lines in the City of Buenos Aires will operate on a special schedule. During the Monday and Tuesday holidays, bus companies will increase their usual frequency to prevent service overcrowding.
Subway Schedule: Closed Stations and Limited Routes
To ensure smooth operations and safety in areas with the highest concentrations of people, the subway system will experience partial service disruptions:
Sunday, November 8, and Monday, November 9
On Sunday, November 8, service will operate on the Sunday schedule, but closures will begin at 12:00 p.m. On Monday, November 9, service disruptions will take effect from the start of service (weekday schedule).

Tuesday, November 10: Youth Vigil and night service
On Tuesday, the subway will operate on a weekday schedule, and all stations will be open (except those previously closed for construction). However, the closure protocol could be reactivated on an emergency basis in the event of overcrowding.
To facilitate the return trip from the Youth Vigil, a historic extension of service will be implemented:
👉Line H (Special Connection): This will ensure a direct transfer to Line D via a direct service. Boarding will be available only via transfer at Santa Fe station, and alighting will be exclusively at Once station.
👉Line D (Open until 1:30 a.m.): It will offer double the usual service to help ease congestion.
Cathedral Route: You can only board at Plaza Italia and get off at Pueyrredón and 9 de Julio (stations open for exiting only).
Direction: Congreso de Tucumán: You may only board at Palermo and exit at Juramento and Olleros (stations open for exiting only).
