More than 40 food stands from Russia and Eastern Europe are coming to Buenos Aires: mulled wine, caviar, kefir, and Russian honey cake at the Slavic Fair this weekend
On June 14 in Buenos Aires, the Slavic Fair brings together more than 40 exhibitors with traditional dishes, crafts, live performances, and family activities so you can feel like you’re in that part of the world without leaving Buenos Aires. The big news this year is the debut of Glühwein, the classic European spiced mulled wine that’s the perfect fuel to fight the cold.
What to eat at the Slavic Fair in Buenos Aires
Gastronomy is at the heart of the fair because it offers the perfect opportunity to sample artisanal products that are hard to find on supermarket shelves; these are also homemade products, crafted by the Slavic community of Buenos Aires.
Among the featured specialties you’ll be able to sample, you’ll find:
- Fresh red caviar and smoked fish.
- Borodinsky bread and traditional Russian black bread.
- Artisanal kefir and homemade pickles (cucumbers and tomatoes).
- Traditional pastries: Medovik cake (honey cake), Napoleon cake, and authentic pastila (similar to traditional marshmallows).
Live shows, children’s activities, and a big raffle
In addition to sampling traditional dishes and sweets from Russian and Slavic cuisine, at this fair you’ll also be able to delve into and learn a little more about Russian culture and its classic tales. For the whole family but especially designed for children, the program includes a puppet show inspired by the traditional Russian fairy tale The Swan Geese; you’ll also find board games and a creative workshop for making puppets.
