El Eternauta, the work of Héctor Germán Oesterheld and Francisco Solano López, which is already a Netflix series, has its own statue in Buenos Aires. It is in the Paseo de la Historieta and is a tribute to one of the most emblematic characters of the national comic and a must for fans.
Where is the statue of El Eternauta?
The sculpture of El Eternauta is on the corner of Azopardo and Moreno (Av. de los Italianos la 800), in front of the Customs Building. There also, on the Puerto Madero side, you will find the Plazoleta Héctor Oesterheld, in honor of the scriptwriter who disappeared during the last military dictatorship in Argentina.
The statue of El Eternauta was made by the sculptor Pablo Irrgang and is made of polychrome epoxy resin, reinforced with fiberglass and internal iron structures, with details just like in the cartoon.
El Paseo de la Historieta: a cultural tour through the emblematic comics of Buenos Aires
The Paseo de la Historieta was inaugurated in 2012 and runs through San Telmo, Monserrat and Puerto Madero. Along this walk you will find other sculptures of characters such as Mafalda, Isidoro Cañones and Patoruzú.
More than a statue, the figure of El Eternauta in the Paseo de la Historieta is a reminder of the cultural impact of this work in the memory and the fight against oppression. Today, El Eternauta is more than ever a symbol of resistance and an icon of Argentine graphic art.
El Eternauta is present in many corners of Buenos Aires. And now you know where his statue is too. Did you already know it?
