Argentina loves rock, and to make that clear, Buenos Aires has a giant cuckoo clock that tells the time with songs by Flaco Spinetta. It’s in a plaza, so seeing and hearing it is totally free. But this “rock cuckoo clock” is much more than that. We’ll tell you where it is and how to discover this monument dedicated to one of the most important figures in Argentine rock.
This is the Rock Cuckoo Clock that tells the time with Spinetta’s songs
In Chivilcoy, about 160 kilometers from Buenos Aires, there is a plaza that displays one of the most striking and interesting monuments dedicated to Alberto Spinetta. Is it a spaceship? Is it a cuckoo clock? The truth is that what is hidden in plain sight in Chivilcoy’s Luis Alberto Spinetta Plaza is both.
Like a cuckoo clock, it tells the time but does so with songs by Flaco Spinetta and is shaped like a spaceship, with an illuminated hatch that opens on the hour: record covers spin and one of his songs plays.
This incredible work of art, this “rock cuckoo clock,” is called Nave Spinetta and was inaugurated in January 2026 in Chivilcoy.
The square that became a Spinetta shrine
This unique musical experience takes place at Plazoleta Luis Alberto Spinetta, inaugurated in 2013 at the corner of Avenida Ceballos and San Lorenzo, in downtown Chivilcoy. Over the years, the square has gradually transformed into a shrine: there are giant posters of El Flaco, visual references to Almendra, and locals who simply come by to wait for “the exact hour.” Now, this space dedicated to rock has added its own rocker “cuckoo clock” with the arrival of the Nave Spinetta.
How the Nave Spinetta works
This installation functions as an urban-scale cuckoo clock. Every hour on the hour, a door opens, a figure of Spinetta appears, record covers spin, panels light up, and a song plays—chosen at random from over 500 tracks in the musician’s archive.
This Rock Cuckoo Clock runs 24 hours a day. The result is quite surreal: a mix of urban installation, emotional tribute, and sound spectacle right in the heart of a town less than two hours from Buenos Aires. If you’ve ever passed through Chivilcoy and didn’t see it, you should definitely go back.
How to get to Chivilcoy from Buenos Aires
Chivilcoy is 160 kilometers from the city of Buenos Aires and takes about 2 hours to reach via National Route 5. You’re close enough to Buenos Aires to turn your trip to Chivilcoy into a day trip, a musical road trip, or a unique weekend getaway for fans of Argentine rock.

The best time to visit is at sunset or at night.
