This Saturday, August 15, Corrientes Avenue will be transformed into a festive pedestrian promenade, with the Obelisk at the heart of an outdoor festival that will illuminate it with a light-mapping show and a giant-screen screening of the animated film *Asterix*, which you can enjoy for free under the stars.
This is a new edition of Corrientes 24HS, when Buenos Aires’ most famous avenue becomes a free outdoor festival where you can experience live music for one night, browse bookstores, dine at discounted prices at local restaurants, and do it all while using public transportation until the early morning.
In this special edition celebrating Buenos Aires’ connection to France and one of its most beloved characters, Asterix and Obelix, you’ll be able to enjoy live French cooking classes led by the Lucullus culinary collective, take photos at photo stations, discover themed tables that recreate the classic banquet from the comic strip, and have fun with special activities at the historic bookstores along Corrientes Avenue.

Who was René Goscinny, and what is his connection to Buenos Aires?
René Goscinny was born on August 14, 1926, and was the writer and co-creator of the comic series *Asterix and Obelix * and *Lucky Luke *. What you might not know is that he lived in Buenos Aires. After arriving with his family from Paris when he was just two years old, he lived in the capital from 1928 to 1945, attending elementary and high school at the city’s French School. During his 17 years living in Buenos Aires, he absorbed the local humor and culture before taking the leap to become one of the creators of two such universally beloved characters. This edition of Corrientes 24 hs pays tribute to him.
