Independence Day is celebrated with food. From July 9 to 15, a group of Buenos Aires’ best restaurants is joining forces in a culinary tour to pay tribute to two great icons of our identity: sweet potato jam and quince jam.
The starting point: A patriotic get-together in Recoleta
To kick off the holiday on Thursday, July 9, with plenty of energy, the must-visit spot is La Morena. They’ll be hosting a gathering with live music, local bands, pastries, and pastafrola to enjoy the afternoon. Plus, all week long, you’ll be able to order their classic cheese and jam platter.
- 📍Where: Austria 2032, Recoleta.
The 6 restaurants to visit during Patriot Week
If you’re staying in Buenos Aires, here are the special dishes and maps you need to bookmark for a spectacular dining experience:
1. Parrilla Villegas (Puerto Madero)
Perfect for fans of well-crafted traditional desserts. You’ll be able to try an exquisite quince and mascarpone flan, where the quince jam is incorporated directly into the flan batter from the very beginning.
- 📍Where? Alicia Moreau de Justo 1050, Puerto Madero.
2. Onno (Mataderos)

This specialty spot is going all out with two incredible options: a “chipá vigilante” (with a generous filling of cheese and quince paste) and a patriotic alfajor that replaces the hint of orange in its original recipe with sweet potato paste, while retaining its creamy chocolate and coffee ganache.
- 📍Where? Av. Emilio Castro 7220, Mataderos.
3. Iberá (Saavedra)
If you’re looking for something completely out of the ordinary, here you’ll find a pancetta bành mí with quince chutney (an Asian-inspired sandwich with a distinctly local twist). For dessert, a spectacular brioche pudding with sweet potato jam.
- 📍Where? Iberá 3250, Saavedra.
4. Carmen (Palermo)

Carmen is adding the dish “Dulce Matrimonio ”to its menu: a combination of wood-smoked provolone, toasted almonds, and honeycomb, served with sweet potato jam or quince jam.
- 📍Where? Gurruchaga 1428, Palermo.
5. Gino (Villa General Mitre)

Gino has prepared a full menu for afternoon tea: sweet potato cheesecake, a “sfogliatelle patria” filled with sweet potato and quince, and the classic homemade pepas in both varieties.
- 📍Where? Av. Juan B. Justo 5183, Villa General Mitre.
6. Laserio (Villa Devoto)

This modern cantina takes the sweet-and-sour combination to a whole new level. You can order a provoleta with roasted cherry tomatoes and spicy quince jam, or let yourself be surprised by their spectacular fried gyoza filled with blue cheese and quince.
- 📍Where? Av. Gral. Mosconi 3906, Villa Devoto.
The dishes will only be available from July 9–15, so we recommend making a reservation in advance, especially for lunch on Thursday, July 9.
