Changes in the National Traffic Law have just been confirmed. We tell you about the changes that will affect you if you drive and have a car in CABA. Among others, the digitalization of the driving license, the elimination of duplicate procedures for vehicle importation and the opening of new VTV centers.
1. Digital driver’s license and new rules for beginners.
The national driver’s license is now completely digital and valid throughout the country. To renew it, you only have to submit an online certificate of psychophysical fitness every 5 years (or more frequently depending on age).
Learner drivers must continue to wear the identification sign for six months and, if they commit serious offenses in the first two years, they may lose their license.
2. No more LiNTI for professional drivers
Freight and passenger transport drivers no longer need the National Interjurisdictional Transport License (LiNTI). Instead, national licenses of categories C, D and E will be sufficient to operate throughout the country.
3. Facilities for trailers and imports
The homologation of trailers and motor homes is simplified with the creation of the Vehicle Safety Certificate (CSV), applicable both to vehicles manufactured in Argentina and imported vehicles.
4. New VTV centers and digital certification
Authorized dealers and workshops will be enabled to perform the Vehicle Technical Verification (VTV) and the Mandatory Technical Inspection (RTO). In addition, the fee will no longer be unique and will depend on each jurisdiction.
Drivers will receive a digital certification of the VTV in the app “Mi Argentina”, complementing the traditional physical wafer.
5. Barrier-free tolls on national roads
By June 2027, all national routes must have automatic “free flow” tolls, eliminating physical barriers to speed up traffic. The National Roads Authority will establish an implementation schedule.
