March 17 is the quintessential green day: St. Patrick’s Day. Although an Irish celebration (St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland), in Buenos Aires it is also celebrated in style, with parades, fairs and a wide range of places ( Irish breweries, why hide it) that are filled with offers and green for the occasion. Find out what you can do in Buenos Aires if you want to go out on March 17 and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day 2024.
How to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day 2024 in Buenos Aires
Every year Buenos Aires is part of the St. Patrick’s Day celebration and offers you a variety of events and activities to commemorate the day.
The monuments are dyed green
Will Buenos Aires turn green? In previous years some of the most emblematic monuments of the city (the Planetarium, the Monument to the Magna Carta and the Four Argentine Regions and the Pyramid of May) are dyed green to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. If so, you already know that on the night of March 17 you will be able to take great pictures before or after going out to walk around and celebrate.
St. Patrick’s Day Parade
This year 2024, the traditional St. Patrick’s Day parade returns to the area of Plaza San Martín (Retiro) at 4:30 pm. If you have never seen it, it is a very colorful parade, although green reigns, where the symbols of Irish culture walk the streets.
Every year, the Buenos Aires Celebrates Ireland food fair also used to take place. This 2024, unless there are last minute changes, Buenos Aires Celebrates Ireland will not take place. Despite this change, the parade will be a great party and you have many options to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day 2024 with your palate .

Everyone goes out with the same plan, so Buenos Aires nightlife on this day will be crowded but also fun (remember to drink in moderation and don’t drive).
If you’re in the Palermo area, it’s a good idea to have located some of the best bars in the area beforehand and reserve a table for yourself. And if the night calls for it, which we suppose it does, what better than to commemorate this date outdoors, with a pint in some of these beer patios.

Know the reason for the celebration
The origin of St. Patrick dates back to the year 385 in Bannavem Taberniae, near Dumbarton, Scotland, Patrick lived a life full of adventure and devotion. Captured by Irish pirates at age 16, he was sold into slavery and spent six years in Ireland, where he learned the Celtic language. His escape took him to France, where he became a priest and returned to Ireland as a missionary, spreading the Christian faith and spreading his legacy.
