Cat therapy, alfajores, and coffee surrounded by cats at Buenos Aires’ first cat café
In the Abasto neighborhood, very close to the Abasto shopping mall, three friends created Cat Café, Buenos Aires’ first cat café. The idea was born during quarantine and continues today, perhaps because there is nothing more calming and energizing after a difficult day than petting a cat, let alone petting 10 cats.Between coffee, alfajores, juices, and cats, you can spend an hour in a space designed and created for enjoyment, where cats can also interact and, who knows, maybe even get adopted.
How Buenos Aires’ first cat café works
Cat Café only operates with prior reservations via Instagram. The exact address is shared once the reservation is confirmed. Groups are small, between two and five people, and each session lasts one hour. Access is paid for with a consumption that includes coffee, tea, or a cold drink, something sweet, and an hour with the cats. Currently, it costs 20,000 pesos from Wednesday to Friday and 24,000 pesos on weekends and holidays.
This cat café in Buenos Aires has 11 cats, each with its own story. Part of the proceeds go to animal shelters. But beyond the charitable aspect, the proposal aims at something specific: cat therapy. Interacting with cats is associated with reducing stress and anxiety, and that is exactly what this space is looking to achieve. An hour to pet, feed, and get close to these furry friends.
The minimum age for admission is 8 years old. Children between the ages of 8 and 18 can only enter accompanied by an adult, so it’s an ideal plan for families, although not suitable for younger children. And if you don’t want to do the full experience but are interested in taking something home with you, there’s the Michi-Tienda.
📅Wednesday to Sunday. Morning sessions: 9, 10, and 11 a.m. / Afternoon sessions: 3, 4, and 5 p.m. (After that time, you can visit the Michi-Tienda, with no time restrictions and no obligation to purchase anything).
