Buenos Aires pays tribute to Charly Garcia: Where to find his mural, the corner with his name and the Charly Garcia subway station.
Buenos Aires pays tribute to Charly Garcia with three landmarks in the city that will surely be a fundamental part of tourist tours and a must-see pilgrimage for fans of one of the most important musicians of national rock.
As of December 7, the corner of Coronel Díaz and Santa Fe will be renamed Esquina Charly García. Don’t miss the ceremony on December 7th from 5pm at Palermo Off, the new open-air shopping mall located at Arenales 3339, where a new mural dedicated to Charly Garcia will be unveiled.
In addition to the new Esquina Charly García in Palermo, there is now also a mural of Charly García. The place chosen is the current Palermo Off shopping mall because years ago and a few meters from there, there was the Paseo del Sol, the same space that housed Planeta Júpiter, the bar where Charly used to go during the 80s.
Charly García in Buenos Aires: A giant mural and a subway station named after him
On the terrace of the Palermo Off you will find the mural dedicated to Charly García: a ceramic work measuring 5.5 by 4.5 meters, inspired by original photographs by visual artist Gabriel Rocca, who portrayed Charly throughout different stages of his career.
In addition to the Charly García corner and the giant mural, Charly also has a subway station named after him. The next time you get off at the Bulnes station on Line D, you will be getting off at the Bulnes – Esquina Charly García station. At the station you will see visual interventions inspired by some of his best known songs: Demoliendo Hoteles, Yendo de la cama al living room and Nos siguen pegando abajo.
It was about time that Buenos Aires had its own urban tribute to Charly García. In 2023, the corner where the cover of Clics Modernos was made was renamed Charly García Corner. Now, Buenos Aires adds its own landmarks, all located near where Charly García lives, in Coronel Díaz 1905 and in representative places of his career.
