The Bon Odori de La Plata has been held since 1999, and is the festival of the Japanese community in Buenos Aires. Don’t miss the exhibition of traditional Japanese dances, the gastronomic fair and the traditional Japanese drums this January 11. It is in La Plata but there are buses that drop you off at the festival so you can’t miss it!
What is Bon Odori and why is it held in La Plata?
Every year, the sports field of the Japanese Association of La Plata, in Colonia Urquiza, is transformed to receive the Bon Odori. It is one of the most important Japanese celebrations and in Buenos Aires it takes place every second of January.
The Bon Odori is a gastronomic and cultural tour where you can discover food stands with all the traditional Japanese dishes, traditional games, exhibition of Japanese drums, traditional dances, stands selling the typical clothes of Japanese culture and all kinds of souvenirs.

How to get to Bon Odori
This is how to get to the festival if you go by bus: Nueve de Julio SAT Company will provide a special service with a frequency of 10 minutes for the main branches 15, 17, 84 West, Line 561 and Line 215 (Branches A, C and D), along with branches 18, 61 and 65 West. The transfer points will be located at Av. 520 and 173, Melchor Romero.
This is how you get to the festival if you go by car:
👉From La Plata: Take Av. 44 or 520 to Route 36, and then follow the signs from 492 street.
👉From City Bell / Villa Elisa: Follow 467 street, passing by Grand Bell country, until 178 street where the road will be signposted.
From Capital Federal: Take the La Plata-Bs.As. highway, turn off at Costa Atlántica, continue on Route 2 up to km 39.5 and then take Route 36 up to 467, following the signs to the venue.
