Secrets—little-known and hidden from plain sight. There are many museums in Buenos Aires you didn’t know existed, and now we’re adding one to your list. Tucked away on the first floor of the School of Medicine is an anatomy museum that carefully preserves hundreds of jars containing real dissected specimens, wax models, and an incredible history that you can discover and explore this Saturday, August 1, on a free guided tour.
The Buenos Aires museum with human body parts and forensic material that you can tour for free
Inside the UBA School of Medicine building at 2155 Paraguay Street, there’s a fascinating and mysterious space that’s usually reserved only for medical students—but on August 1, it’s opening its doors so you can explore it too. It’s the “Juan José Naón” Anatomy Museum, one of the most striking museums in Buenos Aires. It rarely opens its doors to the public, and this is your chance.
With more than 500 jars containing real cadaveric specimens, historical illustrations, wax sculptures, and explanatory models, this space—which opened in 1989—preserves decades of Argentine medical and forensic science history.
Normally, the hallways of the Naón Museum serve as the setting for lectures, lab work, and mock exams for future doctors. However, its collection extends far beyond the academic realm. Visitors who walk through its doors can explore various themed rooms covering topics ranging from neuroanatomy and esplacnology (the study of the viscera) to developmental anatomy and the musculoskeletal system.
In addition, this museum features an area dedicated to Argentine criminalistics and forensic medicine, where cases and preservation techniques that marked an era in our country are documented.
Cadaver preservation, wax models, and forensic science: here’s what the free guided tour at the UBA is like
This Saturday, August 1, 2026, the museum will make a special exception and open its doors to the general public for a free guided tour led by specialists.
You don’t need any prior knowledge of medicine or anatomy—just curiosity and a desire to learn and be amazed. During the tour, you’ll learn—in simple, accessible language—about the structure and secrets of the human body, historical diseases and their impact on the body, cadaver preservation techniques used throughout the centuries, and fascinating facts about anatomy and forensic criminology.
