The first Mafalda Immersive Exhibition, a Jorge Luis Borges Film Series, and an Exhibition by Federico Klemm: Three free exhibitions coming to Buenos Aires in 2026
Forty years after his death, the Recoleta Cultural Center is preparing a grand commemoration dedicated to Borges. The main exhibition opens in May in the Cronopios hall, will occupy 800 square meters, and will showcase his work with personal objects, curiosities, and unpublished documents.
In addition to the free exhibition on Borges, the show will be complemented by a music series entitled “Fervors and Musical Whims of Borges,” which includes everything from Johannes Brahms to Claude Debussy, exploring both the music Borges loved and the music he detested, as well as a film retrospective dedicated to Josef von Sternberg, one of the directors most praised by Borges.
A major retrospective of Federico Klemm
The exhibition dedicated to Federico Klemm explores him as an artist, performer, collector, and key figure in the Argentine cultural scene of the 1990s and 2000s. The exhibition brings together more than 90 works and is intertwined with the artist’s emblematic performances.

In addition to the exhibition dedicated to Federico Klemm, the Recoleta Cultural Center will also host Liv Schulman’s first institutional exhibition in Buenos Aires, the Architecture Biennial in September, and a new edition of World Press Photo in November, among other noteworthy cultural events.
The first immersive Mafalda exhibition in Buenos Aires in 2026
In October, the Cronopios hall will be transformed to host an immersive Mafalda experience, with 15 rooms featuring animated projections, mapping, multi-user virtual reality, sculptures, and interactive spaces. It will be a journey through the universe created by Quino, with the comic strip’s most beloved characters: Susanita, Felipe, Manolito, Libertad, Guille, and Miguelito, among others. You will be able to visit the exhibition from October 2026 to March 2027, after which it will embark on an international tour.
