The must-sees of the museum hidden in Palermo
The MOA serves as an exhibition space for some of the most beautiful statues in Buenos Aires, but also as a workshop, a place where all the sculptures and monuments of Buenos Aires that have suffered the passage of time, the weather, or vandalism and need a little love are restored, repaired, and preserved.
That’s why, on your tour of this open-air museum, you’ll be able to see pieces in different stages of restoration. It was founded in 1956 and manages a collection of more than 2,400 pieces, including statues, busts, plaques, flagpoles, fountains, and monoliths.
The museum can be visited freely, and you will be able to see the Patio de las Esculturas (Sculpture Courtyard), the heart of this open-air museum, and the exhibition pavilion. If you would like to take a more in-depth tour and learn more about the museum’s sculptures, you can take a free guided tour, which can be arranged by emailing visitas.moa@buenosaires.gob.ar.
The MOA is usually part of Museum Night, so at least once a year, you have the opportunity to walk among the sculptures at night under the stars. The museum may be closed on occasion without prior notice. It is best to write before you go.
