A Secret Museum sees the light of day: Rembrant, Berni and Picasso in Buenos Aires.
The exhibition “Secret Museum. De la reserva a la sala”, a must-see exhibition that brings to light close to 300 works that until now remained out of the exhibition circuit.
This “secret museum within a museum”, this collection that went unnoticed for years, can be visited in the temporary exhibitions pavilion and allows you to discover pieces by great national and international masters in a montage that seeks to emulate the way collections were presented in the nineteenth century.
Collectively curated by the museum’s team, this exhibition brings together paintings, sculptures, engravings, drawings, photographs and installations by some 250 artists, a true journey through art from the 14th century to the present day.
Your eyes will get lost among so many works that cover the walls from top to bottom and you will feel like you are in a European museum because you will be able to see works by great Argentine artists, such as Ernesto de la Cárcova and Antonio Berni, as well as works by iconic artists of universal art such as Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso and the Rembrandt school.
What works were hidden and are now coming to light
Among the works on display, there are jewels of Argentine painting, such as Prilidiano Pueyrredón with El baño ( 1865), Ignacio Manzoni and El asado ( ca. 1871), Graciano Mendilaharzu with La muerte de Pizarro ( ca. 1884) and Martín León Boneo with Agencia de colocaciones ( ca. 1900), among other key pieces.
If you are interested in sculptures, the exhibition includes creations by key figures such as Leonora Carrington, Marta Minujín, Liliana Maresca, Norberto Gómez, Juan Carlos Distéfano, Hermi Baglietto, Aldo Paparella, Alberto Heredia and Pablo Suárez.
This museum hidden within the collection of the Museo de Bellas Artes also has a selection of photographs belonging to the museum’s collection, with images by artists such as Robert Mapplethorpe, Horacio Coppola, Anatole Saderman, Alejandro Kuropatwa, Marcos López and Eduardo Grossman, among others.
